Dr. Maria Khan is a board-certified nephrologist with specialized expertise in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Clinical Hypertension. She is recognized for her compassionate patient care, clinical excellence, and dedication to improving outcomes for individuals with kidney disease.
Dr. Khan treats a wide range of kidney-related conditions, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetic kidney disease, dialysis (home and in-center), acute kidney injury, resistant hypertension, kidney stones, glomerular diseases, renal transplant care, hereditary and congenital kidney disorders, and disorders of fluid, electrolytes, and acid-base balance. She also brings significant expertise in critical care nephrology.
Dr. Khan earned her medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her internal medicine residency at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois, where she served as Chief Resident. During her residency, she received the Emergency Medicine Resident of the Year Award and won First Prize in the Vignette Competition for two consecutive years at Resurrection Health Care. She completed her fellowship in Nephrology at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and was nominated to Sigma Xi – The Scientific Research Society for her research contributions.
Dr. Khan is a Fellow of both the American Society of Nephrology (FASN) and the American College of Physicians (FACP). She currently serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation (local chapter) and is actively involved with the PKD Foundation.
Her leadership and clinical expertise have been recognized through numerous honors, including Chicago Magazine’s Top Doctors, Exceptional Women in Medicine, and a Certificate of Excellence in Medical Student Education from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine.
In addition to her clinical roles, Dr. Khan chairs the Marketing Committee at Associates in Nephrology and has served on several institutional committees throughout her career.
She is deeply committed to public health and community service, frequently participating in outreach programs and free healthcare screenings in underserved communities across Illinois and beyond.
Dr. Khan is fluent in English and Urdu. Outside of medicine, she enjoys music, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
