Dr. Jim Yao is an experienced Board-Certified Internist and Nephrologist with Associates in Nephrology (AIN), a Nephrology Group practice located in the greater Chicago area. He earned his medical degree from Central South University Xiang-Ya School of Medicine and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at West Virginia University/Charleston Area Medical Center, followed by a Fellowship in Nephrology at Rochester University Strong Memorial Hospital. Dr. Yao is proficient in managing all aspects of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous dialysis, and related issues in patients with acute renal failure or end stage renal disease (ESRD). He is also skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of various acute kidney injury (AKI), chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, and kidney stone disease in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Dr. Yao focuses on optimal management of CKDs to prevent their progression to ESRD. He is experienced in treating various glomerular diseases, such as Lupus nephritis, IgA nephropathy, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), Membranous Glomerulonephritis (GN), Membranoproliferative GN, Thrombotic Microangiopathies (TMA), and has depth experience in managing patients with kidney transplant. Dr. Yao is a compassionate and detail-oriented physician who treats his patients as he would his own family and friends. In addition to English, he is fluent in Chinese/Mandarin. Dr. Yao is also an accomplished medical researcher, with over 30 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and two highly recognized Awards (New Investigator Recognition Award, National Excellent Research Article Award) from Medical Societies, which underscores his thoughtful, prudent, and meticulous approach to Nephrology with excellent clinical skills.
